Brenda Colwell and Amy Mylin are the literacy specialists at Prairie Hill Elementary School. It is our goal to guide students to literacy success through Reading Recovery and small group literacy lessons.
Reading Recovery was developed by New Zealand educator Dr. Marie M. Clay. It is a short-term intervention for first grade children who are struggling in literacy learning. Children meet individually with a specially trained teacher for 30 minutes each day for an average of 12-20 weeks. The goal is for children to develop effective reading and writing strategies in order to work within an average range of classroom performance. Reading Recovery is implemented annually in over 10,000 U.S. schools.
